“A SUMMER LESSON”

A lesson that all union parents should teach their children during the summer break, is the importance of unions and how they have impacted the quality of life for our families. We are currently living at a time when unionization of the workplace hovers at 11% and is barely over 6% in the private sector.

           THE SAFETY NET – IT’S IMPORTANCE TO LABOR

Do you know that every president in the last 34 years, Democratic and Republican from Regan to Obama has cut the safety net. What is the Safety Net you ask?
Also referred to as socioeconomic safety net are programs to prevent the poor or those vulnerable to poverty, like workers who lose their job and retired workers thru social security. Food based programs such as food stamps, vouchers and coupons, school supplies, subsides for food, electricity and exemptions for healthcare.

“WHAT LABOR MUST DO NOW ELECTIONS ARE OVER”

What must laborers do since the midterm elections are over? What steps need to be taken no matter who is in office?
The main question is how can labor save itself? In order to answer that, we must go back to 1955 when the two labor federations merged to form the American Federation of Labor –Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL- CIO).
