Counseling Service Unit’s Peer Support Program

The Counseling Service Unit’s Peer Support Program can assist members by encouraging them to identify positive coping strategies. Research shows that Peer Support can assist members to recognize an issue that requires attention in themselves or a co-worker. Peers are also available to conduct outreach to quarantined and isolated members and bridge those individuals to additional resources when appropriate.

Members can also call 212.570.1693 to consult with or schedule an appointment directly with a NYS licensed counselor. Talking about your experiences/feelings in a group format has been shown to be a helpful way to manage grief, stress, anxiety and morale. Peer Support led virtual Discussion Groups facilitated by the Counseling Service Unit are now available to members at any FDNY locations (EMS Stations, Fire Houses, Dispatch etc.). Simply call 212.570.1693 to discuss the particulars and schedule a group.
