FDNY EMS Local 2507 launches a campaign today to draw awareness to its fight for higher wages for emergency medics. The union’s “stand with EMS” campaign highlights an increase in 911 emergency medical calls and ambulance response times in the last few years, while the hourly minimum wage for the job remains $18.94.

“We are world-class emergency response medical professionals and the FDNY is the busiest emergency medical response agency in the world. Yet our front-line medical first responders are paid less per hour than most New Yorkers pay to babysitters or dog walkers,” union president Oren Barzilay said in a statement. “The city has continually failed to uphold commitments it has made to our workforce, and all we asked for is a wage commensurate with being on the front lines.”
