Labor Liaison – May 2022

May Day which is Labor Day around the world. It is the celebration of labor and the working class. While it has been part of spring festivals, the date was chosen by the Second International as a successor of the International Workingmen’s Association in support of the working class demands for the eight hour day, which was started by the American Federation of Labor which called for a general strike on May 1,1886 and culminated in Haymarket affair in Chicago.

We must keep the memory of May Day history alive, in order to draw strength and inspiration from the labor movement through time in order to challenge the brutality of today’s socioeconomic order.
The struggle against neoliberal policies requires a well organized labor movement.
