President’s Report

Legislation – On May 3, 2022 Local 2507 and its members, both EMS & Fire Prevention Inspectors held a Lobby Day in ALbany NY Legislative office to speak with NY Senators and Assembly members to address our legislative agenda that our members so rightfully deserve.

The following bills are now in motion.

EMS 2507

S6989A (Gounardes)/A7973 (Abbate)- 22 & out
Referred to Senate Civil Service & Pensions
Referred to Assembly Governmental Employees
NYC Fiscal note received, awaiting amendment S6988B (Gounardes)/A7962 (Abbate) – Fire inspectors 25 & Out
Referred to Senate Civil Service & Pensions
Referred to Assembly Governmental Employees

We are now working with the NYC Council Speak on home rule messages. Things are rapidly moving in the right direction, we are optimistic on the passage of these bills.

FPI –
S6761A Relates to fire suppression systems and licensing professionals to perform authorized work on fire suppression systems

External ACT to amend the general business law, in relation to fire suppression systems and licensing professionals to perform authorized work on fire suppression systems.

LODI Controverted times – The union met with the dept to address our objections with the FDNY charging our members with time or pay on their delayed notifications when the law dept controverts claims. It is not our members’ fault that the FDNY BHS admins fail to do their job while our members are in compliance with lodi policies. This may lead to another legal challenge.

National EMS Week – The national EMS week is upon us, as covid restrictions are lifted around the city, many events that were cancelled the past 2 years are now coming back. We hope to see our members engaged in station events, citywide events (EMS Night at both Yankees & Mets Stadiums, BBQs, parties, competitions etc. Most importantly, it’s a week to reflect on the great work we do and the honor that will be shown to us by the public.

EMS Annual Union Picnic will be coming back sometime in September, details to follow.

Vice President’s Report

Social Media: It’s that time again to remind everyone to read the social media policy and remember not to post or take pictures while on assignment. Of course no taking pictures of patients. If you are posting pictures with coworkers make sure they are aware and you have their consent to post. Its not worth losing time for it.

Ems Week: Later this month we will be celebrating EMS Week. Rising to the challenge Is the theme. It is something you do each and everyday despite everything we negative we face. Thank you for all you do.

Utilize Your Delegate: Your delegate is there as a resource. While everyone’s personality may not mesh, they are there to protect your rights when supervisors are questioning you. Do not accept a CD without talking to your rep. Do not sit and be questioned by supervision without at least asking for a rep. Do not fill out a statement without talking to a rep. All of these things can lead to discipline and it is your right to have a rep. Utilize it.
