Statement from Oren Barzilay, President of FDNY EMS Local 2507, on 343rd FDNY First Responder Death from 9/11-Related Diseases
“For years, the FDNY EMS family has kept a close watch on the increasing number of deaths in the department as a result of disease from exposure to toxins during the 9/11 attacks. As the 343rd FDNY death marks the same amount that died on that fateful day, we are reminded of the heartbreak and sorrow the world felt 22 years ago.
We mourn the recent losses of EMT Hilda Vannata and retired firefighter Robert Fulco and honor their dedication to their fellow New Yorkers. This is a stark reminder that 9/11 did not end on 9/11.
Members of FDNY EMS will carry on their legacy and continue to spread awareness on appropriate treatment for anyone present during 9/11.”
