The Department, in partnership with the Mental Health Association in New York State (MHANYS), is conducting voluntary surveys statewide. These surveys help agencies assess workforce mental health, wellness, resilience, and organizational support. They provide a structured method for gathering direct feedback from personnel, establishing a baseline, and informing future planning.
Survey findings support continuous quality improvement and are not used to evaluate individual employees or agencies. Results identify trends, barriers, protective factors, and areas where additional resources or strategies may be needed. About one (1) year after the baseline survey, agencies will complete a follow-up survey to assess changes. Comparing these results helps determine whether wellness initiatives and interventions have improved workforce mental health, resilience, organizational support, and overall wellness.
Responses are collected anonymously whenever possible, and no identifying information appears in agency or statewide reports. Individual responses are never shared with agency leadership, the Division of State EMS, or outside organizations. Reports present only aggregate findings to minimize the risk of identifying individuals. To further protect confidentiality, open-ended comments are carefully reviewed and excluded if they could reveal a respondent’s identity.
The survey takes approximately 10–15 minutes to complete. Participation is voluntary, and every response helps provide a more complete understanding of our workforce’s mental health and wellness needs.
